Packed with green plants, skylight and nature in the middle of busy Amsterdam, Hortus Botanicus is one of the first places you should put on your list when visiting the city. It was originally built in 1638 as a herbal garden for doctors and pharmacists, and it is said to be one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. Relax here for an hour or two and enjoy the 4,000 different species of plants and butterflies.

2. Haren Hortus Botanicus
Haren Hortus Botanicus is located in Haren, Groningen. In 1626, it was first created by a pharmacist named Henricus Munting, and it became the largest botanical garden in the Netherlands when it was moved to Haren in 1967 from Grote Rozenstraat and Grote Kruisstraat.
Inside it, you have the restaurant ‘De novo Plantage’ and the Chinese Tea House ‘Moaning the Dragon’. Be aware that the Tea House in the Chinese Garden is open on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. in July and August. Outside of that, they are only available for private parties during opening hours only. At the entrance, you have a café and a shop. The garden hosts beautiful views everywhere, and as soon as you walk in you are immediately drawn in to the exceptional nature full of history. You can walk through here for a couple of hours or spend an afternoon.

3. De Haar Castle Garden
You can find the castle De Haar outside of Utrecht city, which is the largest castle in the country. It is not just a beautiful castle - the garden surrounding the castle is absolutely spectacular and enormous. Inside the castle, you will await grandiose carpets, hallways, rooms and a lot more - with eager guides waiting to teach you all about the majestic castle. There is also a restaurant at the entrance serving salads and coffee, surrounded in a medieval atmosphere. De Haar is an absolute treasure you have to put on your bucket-list.
